What is it like working as a Software Engineer?

March 2016
Software Engineer:

Cons: There isn't a great deal of bad other than below market pay.

Software engineer.
Software Engineer:
Pros: Good culture. People are respectful.
Cons: Too many hours.
March 2016
It's a great starting point.
Software Engineer:
Pros: Very smart people to learn from, great working conditions and culture for developing skills.
Cons: Can be easily type cast into a particular group and is a competitive environment for advancing ones career.
March 2016
A lot of responsabilities / Small feeling of exploitation.
Software Engineer:
Pros: I directly had a lot of responsabilities. I developed an entirely new product for the company that has already been sold to 60+ different client for 5,000€ per unit (~2,000€ of gain per unit). I learned a lot given that I developed the backend and frontend, and I also was responsible for the installation on the servers (~devops).
Cons: It's a little stressful given that I am directly responsible in case of bugs in the software. I also know that the company made a lot of money thanks to my work : more than 4 times my annual salary for a software that took me 3 months to develop (and I am the only person developing and installing it). Hence I feel a little bit exploited.
March 2016
Work flexibility, culture, gym, people.
Software Engineer:
Pros: Extremely smart people developing interesting technology.
Cons: Not very organized, but it is getting better.
March 2016
Technical Refresh + Technological Innovation.
Software Engineer:
Pros: Continuous learning and application of knowledge to envision solutions and implement them with others.
Cons: Time needed to network across departments to find the next project or technology direction.
March 2016
Good corporate culture, not much career progression chances.
Software Engineer:
Pros: The company is quite big but that means that the process is quite slow and heavy.
Cons: Not the best pay compared to the market. Not a big culture of training employees.
