Software Engineer Reviews
What is it like working as a Software Engineer?
December 2019
Software Engineer in Southfield:
There's been a lot of change in this place since it went from R.L. Polk & CO. To IHS and now to IHS Markit. Some of the change has been net-neutral, but quite a bit has been negative. The biggest change seems to be monetary. Gone are the days where a stellar performance year meant a equal pay raise.
The perks of flexible work environment, decent office location and a pretty friendly workforce are heavily offset by low pay. Comparing salaries around this place regularly puts IHS Markit pay scale in the lowest of the competing markets. If you look at their EBIT and growth over the last 5 years, management is placing growth of shareholder wealth over their employees by a large margin.

Software Engineer in Columbus:
The culture is unmatched. Leadership trusts that employees will get their work done, and as a result we have flexible working hours, the ability to work from home, unlimited vacation, and the freedom to take midday naps in a bean bag chair or play a video game in the game room. Excellent benefits, compensation, people who genuinely care about each other and the success of the company, and all the snacks/drinks you could want.

Software Engineer in Phoenix:
Each team at amex has different rules. With one director it might be very flexible and another rigid. Make sure you find out before starting. Compensation is great, and they have fantastic benefits. 401k match, good vacation and 5 months parental leave.

Software Engineer in Redmond:
While the projects are frequently interesting and many of your coworkers will be great to work with, the quickly declining work life balance and poor pay (compared to the local competitors) make it difficult to want to continue to work here. HR continues to have problems with handling employee issues and has been terrible at hiring since I joined with no signs of progress.
